258// Can a food sensitivity go away? LIVE Coaching

April 3, 2025

As we transition into the months of April and May, I'm on maternity leave, but that doesn't mean we're leaving you without content. We're tapping into our group coaching calls within our private coaching community, the Better Belly Blueprint, to bring you valuable insights. Today, we're addressing a compelling question from one of my clients, Elizabeth, regarding food sensitivities and mold exposure.

Understanding Food Sensitivities and Mold Exposure

Elizabeth's question centers around whether persistent food sensitivities can be caused by mold exposure and, if so, whether these sensitivities might dissipate following a mold detox. Elizabeth's curiosity stems from testing done within our program, which revealed mold colonization in her body—a potential root cause of her symptoms. Through testing in our Blueprint program, it can teach that some food sensitivities are temporary and can be unlearned, while others are more permanent.

Temporary Food Sensitivities

One of the most frequent questions I encounter is whether food sensitivities can ever fully disappear. Nobody wants to live with such restrictions forever.

From my experience and that of the medical community, mold exposure definitely plays a role in developing temporary food sensitivities, as it elevates the immune response and damages the gut lining. This damage can lead to the body incorrectly identifying certain foods as harmful.

Recovering from these temporary sensitivities can happen once the gut is healed and other co-infections—like parasites or Candida—are addressed.

I can personally attest to overcoming sensitivities to foods like apples, broccoli, onions, and garlic after healing my gut.

Permanent Food Sensitivities

Permanent food sensitivities are an area that still requires more research. In my practice, I've seen cases where food sensitivities, previously thought to be permanent, improve after addressing issues like histamine reactions, often driven by mold.

However, some chronic conditions, like a longstanding mold exposure, might lead to permanent changes.

McKayla Peterson, for example, who has spent years on a carnivore diet due to severe autoimmune reactions linked to childhood mold exposure. Her story exemplifies the complexity and variability in recovery from such sensitivities.

While I continue to work towards a state where I might overcome my permanent sensitivities, such as to rice and corn, this journey can be long and is not yet complete.

Understanding the intricate relationship between food sensitivities and factors like mold exposure is critical for those facing similar challenges.

Elizabeth and all our listeners, I hope this offers some insights and answers.

Remember, whether you’re dealing with temporary or permanent sensitivities, healing is possible.

Keep exploring, keep asking, and keep healing.
